About Palmolive Building Landmark

The Palmolive Building was designed by Holabird & Root and completed in 1929 as headquarters for the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company, and is considered one of the finest Art Deco office buildings ever built. Its Lindbergh Beacon, a gift from gyroscope inventor Elmer Sperry, was lit for the first time in 1930 by President Hoover pressing a button in the White House, and later became known as the Playboy Beacon when Hugh Hefner's company made the building its headquarters from 1965 to 1989, home to the first Playboy Club. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, it holds 102 condominiums with a sauna, spa, and hardwood floors throughout, just off Michigan Avenue.
