Long before it was residential, 5 N Wabash sat in the heart of Chicago's jewelry trade — Mr. T reportedly stocked up on gold chains here in the 1980s, a history the building's current name nods to. The tower itself, originally known as the Kesner Building, was designed by Jenney, Mundie and Jensen, the successor firm to William LeBaron Jenney, credited with pioneering the skeletal steel frame construction that made skyscrapers possible.
