About 400 E Randolph Street

Outer Drive East is one of the largest residential buildings in Chicago — 40 stories, 944 units, built in 1963 on the eastern edge of Lakeshore East, where Randolph dead-ends at the lake. At this scale, it operates less like an apartment building and more like a small city: on-site restaurant, indoor pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, health club, sundeck, and a bike room that actually has room for bikes.

The assessment structure is the sleeper story. Heat, gas, air conditioning, water, cable, and doorman are all folded in — which compresses what looks like a high monthly number into something that holds up against newer buildings once you run the actual math.

Views are the obvious pitch. At 40 floors on the lakefront, east-facing units have nothing between them and Michigan. The Lakefront Trail is out the door. Maggie Daley Park is a five-minute walk. Grant Park is closer than that.

It's a 1963 building and it shows in places. But nothing else at this price point in Lakeshore East comes with an indoor pool, a restaurant, and utilities included.

FAQ

Where do these listings come from?

Straight from the Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED) MLS, refreshed regularly — the same listings your buyer's agent sees, no curated subset.

Can I work with Dibze to buy?

Yes. A licensed Chicago buyer's agent lines up tours, writes offers, and handles the close. The seller pays the commission, so it's free to you — and we rebate part of it back at closing.

Can I rent in this building?

If owners are leasing units, the For Rent tab shows them. These are individual condo owners listing through the MLS, so lease terms and pet rules vary by unit.

How is this different from Redfin or Zillow?

Same MLS feed, different model — we don't sell your contact info or turn every click into a lead. One Dibze condo expert handles your whole search and represents you, not the seller.
